Relief & Rehabilitation Work In Emergencies
Pakistan Council for Social Welfare & Human Rights also has honor to did lot of Relief and Rehabilitation Activities in Emergencies/Disasters since its establishment.
As on 8th October 2005 the most powerful Earthquake of Pakistani History destroyed the beauty of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, which is called Paradise on the Earth. Most of the buildings collapsed in the worst affected districts of Muzafarabad, Bagh, Neelam valley and Rawalakot. Independent observers claimed about the loss of more than 80 thousand human lives and injures tens of thousands others besides the expensive damages to the property in AJK and NWFP. PCSW&HR had several times distributed the relief goods among the Kashmiri refugees and effected people of AJ&K due to heavy Indian Army shelling at Control Line of Indo – Pak donated by Convent of Jesus & Mary and others donors with the collaboration of AJ&K Government.
At this difficult time PCSW&HR also took initiative and performed so many activities for the relief and rehabilitation of Earthquake victims with the financial assistance of different National and International donors as per detail given below.
On 16th October PCSW&HR distributed the 3 trucks of relief goods among the earthquake victims at rural area Ghari Dopatta of District Muzafarabad with the collaboration of local youth groups and philanthropists for 1000 families for the worth of Rs. 0.8 million. Relief goods consisting on food items (Grocery) for the period of 2 week, Blankets, General Medicines, Children’s toys and clothes etc.
On 24th October PCSW&HR distributed the relief goods among the earthquake victims at Jalalabad (Muzafarabad) with the collaboration of Convent of Jesus & Mary Pakistan for 277 families for the worth of Rs. 0.4 million with the coordination of Prime Minister Office of AJK. Relief goods consisting on food items (Grocery) for the period of 2 week, Blankets, Children’s toys and clothes etc.
On 29th October PCSW&HR distributed the relief goods among the earthquake victims at Village Dheer Kot District Bagh with the collaboration of Cathedral School System for 200 families for the worth of Rs. 0.4 million with the coordination of AJK Muslim Conference. Relief goods consisting on food items (Grocery) for the period of 2 weeks, Blankets, Children’s toys, small drinking water tanks and clothes etc.
On 7th November 2005 PCSW&HR distributed the relief goods among the earthquake victims at Village Ghazi Abad District Bagh with the collaboration of local NGOs for 200 families for the worth of Rs. 0.4 million with the coordination of AJK Muslim Conference and Idra Khidmat-ie-Insanee (IKI) Relief goods consisting on food items (Grocery) for the period of 2 weeks, Blankets, small drinking water tanks and clothes etc.
Tent Villages for Earthquake Affected People
Pakistan council for Social Welfare & Human Rights also established 7 Tent villages at following locations of AJK for those families lost their houses during the 8th October Earthquake with the collaboration of One Body One Spirit Movement (OBOS) Korea. The purpose of these tent villages was to provide immediate temporary shelters to earthquake effected families so that these families may be protected from weather effect like severe cold, snow fall and rains etc.

Rehabilitation of Earthquake Affected Population
After the earthquake 2005 PCSW&HR initiated various projects for the rehabilitation of earthquake affected population at various parts of AJ&K badly affected due to that worst ever earthquake of South Asian history.
REBUILDING OF SELECTED RURAL HOUSES ON SELF HELP BASIS IN AJK AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE
After the worst ever earthquake of 2005, different donors through out the word step forwarded and provided very heavy donation in shape of relief goods as well as Tents to the earthquake victims so that shelter may be provided to those peoples those house had been completely destroyed. Pakistan Council for Social Welfare & Human Rights had been realized from the very beginning although it is good step that different agencies are providing the Tents to homeless families for shelter, but it is not permanent solution because these tents will not be able to protect the people of AJK from very heavy snow fall and cold winter which starts from mid of December. Pakistan Council for Social Welfare & Human Rights has been urged the different donor agencies that they should think for the provision of permanent shelter to the victims of 8th October earthquake. Pakistan Council for Social Welfare & Human Rights also took initiative and presented a model for the provision of permanent shelter to the 58 families of village Kari Kot Sub Division Dheer Kot District Bagh of AJK with the financial assistant of Ms. Rana Syeed and Jewelers Association Sialkot.
For this purpose PCSWHR provided the CGI sheets, tool kits, technical assistance, grocery for 10 days to each families so that they can rebuild their destroyed houses. Strategy of this model was purely based on social mobilization process and community participation and the NGO’s consultants, local govt. representatives and community-developed model mutually. As per the model the role of supervision, monitoring, identification of the needy peoples was the primary responsibility of the local Govt. representatives and community influential. Provision of the above-mentioned material, technical assistance and broad based social mobilization were the key responsibilities of NGO staff. In the all phases of the process the community participation and their will was ensured at all levels. Later on Govt. of Pakistan and AJ&K also acknowledge the model of PCSW&HR for the rebuilding of destroyed houses using the CGI sheets.
Provision of Permanent Shelters to 145 Families at Village Bermong – Rawalakot AJ&K
Under this project with the collaboration of OBOS “The One Body One Spirit Movement” Korea PCSW&HR provided 145 permanent shelters to families of Village Bermong those fully lost their houses during the 2005 Earthquake. The purposes of this project were to empower the effected families for their rehabilitation through the process of advocacy, social mobilization, to save the earthquake families from the effects of the weather, to provide the permanent shelter to the victims of earthquake on rapid basis, to uplift the victim’s families after the earthquake effects, to bring the victims families in mainstream after the earthquake effects
Provision of Permanent Shelters to 80 Families at Village Akhorban – AJ&K
Under this project PCSW&HR provided 80 permanent shelters with the OBOS for those families 100% lost their houses during the 8th October 2005 and had not any kind of shelter for living and were forced to live under the sky. The main purpose of this project was to empower and psychology boost up the 80 affected families of village Akhorban Rawalakot for their rehabilitation by the provision of complete standard permanent earthquake proof shelters. During this project PCSW&HR provided the permanent earthquake proof shelters to 80 families consisting two rooms having size 11 x 12 feet one Kitchen size 11 x 6 feet along with complete heating system, one bath room size 5 x 4 feet along with all its accessories and septic tank and Veranda size 26 x 4 feet along with ceiling to roofs and walls etc
PCSW&HR’s Relief Activities for the IDPs of Swat and Malakand Division at Mardan District
As there was a very serious military offensive in the Malakand Division of North West Frontier Province of Pakistan [Swat, Dir, Buner and adjacent locations was in action. The reason of that serious offensive was to uproot the terrorists and extremism from the region but innocent Pakistani suffered and displaced out of that region migrating to safer regions like Mardan, Charsadda and Peshawar. As per different reports, there were about 4 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) because of then Swat conflict and Army Operation against Militants in Malakand Division (Swat, Bonier, and Deir).
Pakistan Council for Social Welfare & Human Rights (PCSW&HR) did various relief activities and played its role to minimize the affects of man-made disaster, which caused the biggest migration of affected Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The displaced people have lost their homes, livelihoods, and livestock. Due to worst security, situation women and children were in extreme stress and psychiatric conditions. PCSW&HR made its humble efforts to provide relief to the internally displaced persons in terms of establishment of Tents Village, provision of food, bedding, crockery, water cooler and also organized the medical camp as well as provision of medicines to IDPs on 22 June 2009.
Establishment of Tent Villages for IDPs
Pakistan Council for Social Welfare & Human Rights established two tent villages with the name of “PEACE TENTS” with the collaboration of OBOS “The One Body One Spirit Movement” Korea who donated these tents, for those IDPs families already resided at camps organized by the NWFP Government and NGOs.The purpose of establishment of these camps was to reduce the overburdening of IDPs from these camps organized by the NWFP Government and NGOs because these camps were overcrowded and numbers of families were forced to reside in one room
First Tent Village comprising on 11 Tents was established at Gulli Bagh Mardan on the recommendation of District Nazim Mardan Mr. Hamyat Ullah Mahyar with the collaboration of Union Council Nazim Syed Rahim Shah.
Second Tent Village comprising on 11 Tents was established at Govt. High School No 1 Bicket Gunj Mardan with the collaboration of one of Community Based Organization “Tanzeem Khidmate Kaliq” Muslim Abad Mardan.
REHABILITATION OF REFUGEES WHO AFFECTED FROM SHELLING AT LOC. IN KASHMIR TERRITORY:
With the collaboration of National Council of Churches in Pakistan, PCW&HR distributed goods and necessities of life worth of Rupees 1.5 million among the refuges from Kashmir, and affected of shelling from the Line of Control (India-Pakistan).
